So, how can WPC help your company "Go Green" and increase your profits?

Paper is the most costly expense in the printing process and can account for as much as 50%-60% of the total costs of a job run.

It is no easy task for today’s printer to increase their profit margin and become more price competitive. In the current economy the printer must now maintain existing customers and find ways to attract new potential customers in order to survive. The goal then becomes very clear; if you want to increase your profit margin then you must take the necessary steps to reduce your paper waste.

Paper is not likely to get any cheaper in the future. There are fewer paper manufacturers in the US and Canada than there were just ten years ago, and those remaining continue to consolidate their current operations by shutting down some of their older paper machines. Less availability produces longer lead times and a higher demand per paper roll. A weaker US dollar makes it more costly to import paper from Canada or Europe. Rising costs of raw materials such as pulp and petroleum have also made their adverse contribution to the prices of paper, not to mention ink. Less competition in the paper supplying industry has bolstered an unwillingness to negotiate paper prices. Small to medium printers get hit with these costs even harder than the larger paper buyers.

With all these factors, the inevitable end result is that printers are going to have to address this problem head on or suffer the consequences of becoming a non-efficient operation in a Green-driven society. This can spell disaster for the printer that ignores these facts.

So, just how bad is the printing waste situation right now? According to widely published data, make-ready waste averages between 8-9% and running waste averages an additional 5-6% of the total paper allocated for a job. Combining this statistic with average paper costs would mean that the minimum dollars lost to make-ready and running waste would be between 4.5-7.5%. These percentages can be as much as 25-35% in the short run print markets.

Clearly, expensive paper equals expensive waste, so how can WPC help with the rising costs of paper? Simply put, WPC improves your productivity by improving print quality and reducing your printed waste. WPC systems utilize innovative vision technologies to monitor and control ink density, color register, ribbon position and other web processes during the press run. State of the art systems and rugged components result in more uptime than competitors systems. The reduction in ink and paper waste as well as the increase in system uptime and print quality translates to greater savings and increased profits for you. 100% of waste saved can be applied directly toward your bottom line. Saving paper waste is not unlike taking trash from your garbage can and turning it into cash … and, there is the added benefit of becoming a Greener company.

Waste savings is a Green concept and the WPC Team has made this our top priority for nearly 40 years. WPC was helping its customers Go Green before Going Green was a major trend in the world. Testimonials

"With the WPC Systems on our presses we have improved our quality while reducing our paper and ink waste to help our environment" – Mark Schumann (Schumann Printing, Fall River, WI)

"The equipment that we were sold has done everything that it was advertised to do! Our makeready waste counts dropped considerably. This has also helped increase production even with reduced staffing levels. Our quality level increased as we are now more consistent from press to press and job to job with our color. The equipment was easy for the pressmen to understand and they embraced this new technology. I also couldn’t be happier with the response that we get from the folks at Web Printing Controls. They are always there to help in any way that we ask. From installation to training to support for the few problems that we have had they have proven to be a great partner." - Randy Mickelson (Webcrafters, Inc., Pressroom Superintendent)

“We began as a one press startup company and investigated many suppliers of press automation systems. We chose WPC because of the technology they offer, the speed they can get us on the good counter with, the ease of use operators experienced, and day in day out reliability. We have found that with these systems on press we save time, ink and paper all while having great quality and a short (under 12 month) ROI. We are a green company and we will use WPC technology on all new presses we will purchase because it is also the best for our ecology.“ - Bernard Giguère (Norecob Printers, President)

“We have used WPC Equipment from the middle 80's and it has always performed great. It has done so without having maintenance people there to do repairs. There has been years go by that the systems never have any problems. They require only that the maintenance be done to keep them in top condition. We are also happy with the company's future improvements that have been installed to improve the speed and quicker make-ready’s to lower the costs. They are always working to bring us improving performance that saves us money.” - Wayne Brown (Publisher's Printing Company, Pressroom Projects)
